Claims Assistant

R&A Risk Professionals has an immediate full-time opening for a Claims Assistant position. R&A is the Managing General Agent for our parent company PMMIC Insurance, based in Urbandale, Iowa. We provide all administrative, accounting, underwriting, sales and claim services for PMMIC. PMMIC’s primary line of business is pollution liability coverage for petroleum storage tanks. The claims assistant will work directly with senior claims staff to process environmental claims and assist with claimant communications. This strong team player will have the ability to coordinate with upper management and communicate with claimants and environmental remediation vendors.

Claims Assistant Qualifications:

  • 2+ years of experience in an insurance company, TPA or brokerage environment
  • Previous claims experience preferred
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and accounts payable
  • Insurance designations and insurance education preferred
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Organized, focused, with a structured system to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • College degree preferred

 Claims Assistant Responsibilities include:

  • Set up new insurance claims in Proprietary PMMIC claims system
  • Create labels and file folders
  • Process claims acknowledgment letters and reservations of rights letters for new claims
  • Prepares and distribute budget approval letters and enter budget figures into the system
  • Reconcile invoice requests within claim system to approved budgets
  • Performs all comprehensive file management functions for all claims
  • Process and file closed claims
  • Review and prepare outgoing payments and other correspondence
  • Assists in report preparation and finalization of all fee-based claims and other projects
  • Maintain spreadsheet of approved budgets for monthly reporting to regulatory agency
  • Maintain eligibility compliance spreadsheet; send reminder correspondence
  • Maintain spreadsheet for Certificates of Insurance for consultants and keep updated with current certificates
  • Maintain and update consultant fee schedule guide
  • Scan or upload documents into all claim files
  • Provide backup to Underwriting Department as needed
  • Oversee all maintenance requests on office equipment for claims area
  • Assist with phones, mail, and daily bank deposits as needed
