Leak Detection Tips

A lack of proper leak detection documentation is one of the most common regulatory deficiencies in the country. Missing leak detection records can add to your expenses and may place your facility on a delivery prohibition list. We’ve put together a list of basic guidelines to help you keep your site in compliance and running smoothly.

  • Test your tanks when they are full or after receiving a load of product. Many tank monitors are unable to pass a test if the product is below a certain level.
  • Retain the highest volume passing test each month.
  • When records are requested, submit the most recent 12 months passing tank tests (at certified level).
  • Make sure your tests are always legible. If your tank monitor prints out reports on thermal paper, we recommend making a copy of the report and storing it in a folder or binder. Thermal paper fades over time, eventually rendering your record useless.
